Onward to November! Fundraise with ActBlue, win Gore goodies

Ready for the next challenge?  Fundraise for your favorite Democrats at ActBlue!

In 30 days we'll be sending copies of An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore's phenomenal new book (and companion to his phenomenal movie) to everyone who uses ActBlue to raise at least $600 from at least 6 donors by September 6th.  (Just in case being part of the tidal wave of Democratic victory isn't motivation enough!)

Learn how to get started.

To help you reach this goal, we'll be hosting conference calls this week and next to share strategies for effective and fun fundraising, and to answer any questions about ActBlue that you may have.

The calls (approximately 30 minutes) will take place at

  • 10pm EDT (7pm PDT) on Thursday, August 10th
  • 7:30pm EDT (4:30pm PDT) on Tuesday, August 15th

For call-in information, please RSVP to rsvp (at) actblue (dot) com at least 12 hours before the call you'd like to join, and please specify whether you'd like to join the Thursday call or the Tuesday call.

Hope to talk to you soon — now get going!

(I've posted answers to some frequently asked questions below.)

Q. Do you mean $600 total from six donors, or that we need to get six people to each give $600?

A. The former — though if you've got rich friends, go for it!

Q. To get a copy of An Inconvenient Truth, do I have to raise $600 from 6 donors all in the next month, or does my ActBlue page simply have to hit the goal sometime between now and September 6th?

A. You just have to hit the goal between now and September 6th.  It's fine if you start with $580 and 5 donors.  In fact, you can start with $580 and 7 donors, or $650 and 5 donors.

Q. What if I've already raised $3141.59 from 82 donors?

A. Wow, you're awesome!  But we're only sending books to folks whose fundraising pages hit the goal between August 4th and September 6th.  You should feel free to start another page if you want to participate though.

Q. When EXACTLY is the deadline?

A. Sheesh, you're picky :-) Let's say 7am EDT on September 7th. That'll leave you a little leeway.

Q. What if I raise $300 on one page and $400 on another?  Does that count?

A. Sure, but you should let us know, as we might not catch it.

Other questions?  Please e-mail info (at) actblue (dot) com

Poll
Can you raise $600 from at least 6 people?
Yes, I'm up for it.
Yeah, no problem, I'll blow through that in a week.
Could be challenging, but I'll try.
$600, what kind of friends do you think I have?
Money is the root of all evil.

Did you get permission from him to politicize his book in this way?

Nope; we just like the movie and the book, and thought others would, too.

The climate crisis is not a partisan political issue.

Re: Onward to November! Fundraise with ActBlue, wi (none / 0)

We could have also offered everyone ice cream.  Is ice cream partisan? :-)

(OK, I'm just being silly, my apologies.)

In all seriousness, I'm not too worried about this effort providing more material to those who want to slap the label of partisanship on An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore, or global warming.  I think they already have plenty.

Re: Onward to November! Fundraise with ActBlue, wi (none / 0)

Sorry, but I at least would have asked him first. He has maintained tirelessly that this is not a partisan political movie, and after seeing it I can attest to that. And the fact that the RW (and others) have tried to do all in their power to make this movie and book look partisan, certainly imo doesn't mean we have to feed the fire. To me it looks like exploitation to make money, because I haven't heard one candidate for 2006 seriously talk about the climate crisis as it relates to this movie and what politicians are really going to do to address this now as if they really give a damn about it. Perhaps if I did, I might not feel the way I do.
